It is true: Obama host in 1981 in Karachi, capital of Sindh, was my late mom lover
My family hates me when I write that the late Senator Ahmedmian Soomro, Barack H. Obama host in 1981 in Karachi, was my late mom’s lover. Soomro was married to his first cousin; my mom, to her’s.
Pir Pagara VI, Soreh Badshah, was jailed after he refused to pay British money for the war effort during World War Two, said Lady Hidayatullah.
The month of May has lot meaning for my ex-rated family, called the Mustikhans of Karachi and Rangoon.
On May 16, 1942 my uncle Aziz Mustikhan was killed when the Hurs— anti-British Sindhi tribals who followed feudal lord Pir Pagara, Soreh Badshah— attacked the Punjab Mail train between Tando Adam Khan and Odero Lal, derailing the locomotive and six cars. He died along with his friend Munawwar Hidayatullah, son of the then home minister of Sindh, Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah. Twenty others was also killed.
This was one of the most heinous terrorist attack on a train.
Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro, second premier of Sindh after its separation from the Bombay Presidency in 1935, was killed after he failed to gain clemency for Soreh Badshah.
Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro, maternal great grandfather of my lone son, was also on the same train but quietly got down at the Hyderabad train station after Jam Kamboh, father of Jam Sadiq Ali, who later became chief minister of Sindh, is said to have whispered in the ears of Soomro that the Hurs would attack the train.
The victims funeral in Karachi was attended by mammoth crowds.
Shaheed Soomro was publicly cussed by his eldest nephew Ahmedmian Soomro, who was a close friend of my slain uncle and madly in love with my late mother. However, both late Soomro and my late mother were married to their first cousins as per feudal traditions.
Ahmedmian Soomro was Barack Obama host when he visited Karachi early 1981 as a 19 and half year old. I saw Obama in Soomro’s drawing room reading Pakistan newspaper DAWN one morning during that time.
The reason I was visiting Soomro early morning is I was getting transferred from a medical school in Larkana to Karachi and the bureaucrats were giving me a tough time. In fact, Soomro came twice with me to the Sindh secretariat. His younger brother Illahi Bakhsh Soomro, former speaker of the National Assembly, also took me to the Sindh secretariat for the same reason.
Soomro’s eldest son, Mohammedmian Soomro, met President Obama. He is a world class banker who served as the governor of southeastern Sindh province, as well as caretaker president and caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. “My late father always fondly remembered Aziz Mustikhan” he said.
Obama stayed in Sindh for three weeks because his Occidental Collegr buddy Hassan Chandio, whose last name is mostly misspelled as Chandoo.

The reason Hurs were protesting was that Pir Pagaro was jailed by the British as he refused to give the Raj money to support the war effort during World War Two, late Lady Sughra Hidayatullah, widow of Sir Ghulam Hidayatullah— the first chief minister of Sindh when it was separated from the Bombay Presidency and its first governor after creation of Pakistan, told this writer in the 1990s.
She said that Soreh Badshah, who had stayed as her husband’s guest many times, had offered her if she so desired thousands of his supporters would come and commit mass suicide in the lawn of her mansion for the killing of her son Munnawar Hidayatullah in the train attack.

That mansion was right across of Seafield, the family home of the Haroons. The Haroons eldest daughter Daulat Haroon was married to Hidayatullah’s eldest son, Anwar Hidayatullah. Both the Hidayatullahs and Haroons as well as Gabols and Soomros were our close friends.
According to Lady Hidayatullah, the British had charged Pir Pagara for keeping a boy in a cage whom he sodomized for pleasure. But the main grudge was his refusal to support the British.
Nine months after the train massacre on March 20, 1943, Pir Pagara was hanged by the British. Less than two months later Pir Pagara followers assassinated Allah Bux Soomro on May 14, 1943. According to my late former father in law, Rahim Bux Soomro, his father was killed by the Hurs as they had given him half million rupees, big amount at the time, to get British clemency for Pir Pagara but he failed to deliver. The reason he failed was the British governor of Sindh, Sir Hugh Dow, rejected his appeal.
